The Origin of Sweeney’s Blogs…

Good morning everyone,

I hope you’re all having a brilliant start to the week 🙂

I’ve been running Sweeney’s Blogs for over 4 and a half years now, but do you know how I got the idea to start the page in the first place? Well, don’t you worry, today we are going to be taking a trip down memory lane and looking at the origins of Sweeney’s Blogs.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

On the 3rd of February 2019, I created Sweeney’s Blogs, which turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. I could never have imagined the page doing as well as it has, and to say that I’m proud of the journey that we have been on is an understatement, but where did it all start – let me tell you a little story…

I actually got the idea to create Sweeney’s Blogs after a careers meeting that I had at the Henley Business School. I used to have these meetings biweekly, as a way to reflect on how I was doing with my professional image and portfolio, the steps that I could take to enhance my entry into the working world and overall tips and tricks to help ensure that I was continually improving myself.

I was meeting with Sarah Rourke, one of the career counsellors in the Henley Careers team, to discuss the best way to prepare myself for my upcoming Professional Placement Year. I knew that my placement year had the potential to be such a value-filled experience throughout my time at university, and I wanted to make sure that I was doing all that I could to capitalise on the opportunity.

After a bit of discussion, Sarah asked me if I’d ever thought about blogging – as it was clear that I was a very deep thinker and loved trying to help others wherever I could. I’ll be honest, at the time, I didn’t know much about blogging, but after doing a bit of research and some digging, I thought that it could be right up my street.

I decided “Why not give it all a go” and started the page two days later, having no idea what I was really getting myself into. Sitting down and thinking over how to write the first blog took a little bit of time, but after doing 2 or 3 blogs, I really started to find my groove. I’ve been posting 2 brand-new blogs a week for the last 4 and a half years, never missing a week in that entire time.

In that time, Sweeney’s Blogs has accumulated over 46,000 total views, from over 120 different countries – how crazy is that?! We’ve now got a team of amazing writers, with Isha, Giles, Matthew and hopefully many more helping to grow the page to even bigger heights.

I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who has helped the page get to where it is today, I couldn’t have done it without you. This page isn’t a singular blog page, it’s a community, one where we help and support each other wherever we can in life, spreading some of that well-deserved positivity that we all need from time to time.

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Would you like to see more blogs that are focused on my blogging journey? What sort of content would you like to see on the page going forward?

I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
