Happy Birthday Sweeney’s Blogs!!

Sweeney’s Blogs turns five years old today, can you believe it?! Reflecting back on the page’s journey over these last couple of years is simply mind-blowing, I could not be prouder of how far the page, and us as a community, have come in such a short timespan. We’ll be diving into this a bit closer in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

On the 3rd of February 2019, I was in my first year of university, studying at the University of Reading, and it was a period of intense growth in my life. Moving away to study was my first time living by myself, somewhat far from home, which was an experience, to say the least!

When I started Sweeney’s Blogs, I had no idea what I was getting myself in for. I could never have dreamed of even hitting 100 total views, let alone surpassing the 50,000 mark, that we achieved last year. Watching the page come such a long way has honestly been incredible, these last couple of years have been an absolute whirlwind, but one of the constants that has helped me through it has been this page.

I never set out to create a singular website, I wanted to build a community – a place where people from all walks of life could come together and talk about the things that genuinely mattered to them. I wanted to help shape a vision of a platform where people could share their stories, without being judged, feeling heard and appreciated as they progressed through lives many twists, turns and mysteries.

Sweeney’s Blogs is here to make a difference in as many lives as we possibly can, seeing its impact and reach grow to the levels that it has done over the last five years is absolutely crazy. To watch that vision continue to turn into reality is such a rewarding and fulfilling feeling, it’s difficult to put it all into words!

One of my favourite things about Sweeney’s Blogs is the scalability of the page. As I made the page a reflection of myself, my personality and topics that relate to us all as people, there is quite literally an unlimited source of content, that we can all explore together.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many different people who have broadened my horizons in a myriad of ways. Whether through fresh narratives, alternative viewpoints on subjects, or exposure to diverse cultures from across the globe, each encounter has contributed to enriching both my own personal perspectives and the inclusive, ever-evolving essence of the page. It’s a truly remarkable experience.

As we look to the year ahead, I cannot wait to see what’s in store. We’ve got a brilliant new writer joining us soon and there are a load more topics that I’m looking forward to diving into. 2024 is going to be a year filled with fresh opportunities, challenges and areas that will help us all to adapt, develop and grow.

Before I close off today’s blog, I wanted to take a minute to thank each and every one of you who has helped the page along its journey over these last five years. I well and truly could not do this without all of your support, and I do really appreciate it all.
