The Paris 2024 Olympics is here!

Good morning everyone,

I hope you’re having a fab start to the week 🙂

Last Friday, we had the Opening Ceremony for the highly anticipated Paris Olympics, and for the next two weeks, we get to see some of the very best athletes showcasing their incredible talent. Let’s explore some of my thoughts on Paris 2024 in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

I absolutely love watching the Olympics, every time it comes around, I cannot get enough of it. There’s something truly special about seeing athletes from all corners of the globe come together to compete at the highest level. Here in the United Kingdom, we are spoilt for choice with talent in this year’s games.

History has already been made in Paris 2024, with divers Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen winning Team GB’s first medal on the opening day of the Olympics since 2004 in the women’s synchronised 3m springboard. This was Britain’s first female diving medal at an Olympics for 64 years, an astonishing achievement.

One of the most exciting parts of any Olympics for me is the swimming. Adam Peaty has returned to the pool for Paris 2024, with his love for swimming back in full form. His 100m Breaststroke final yesterday was such a brilliant race to watch. He is not the only UK swimmer to keep an eye on, with Duncan Scott, Matt Richards, Anna Hopkin and so many taking to this year’s events.

French swimmer, Léon Marchand, is said to be on top form entering into Paris 2024. The 22-year-old swimmer from Toulouse has already beaten his hero, Michael Phelps, record in the 400-meter individual medley, which is a crazy achievement in its own right. As he’s still relatively young in his career, it’s going to be great to see what else is in store for him.

I might do a couple of extra blogs on swimming in Paris over the next couple of weeks, as there is so much that we can talk about. I’ll be sure to think about it when I’m off on holiday and will let you know what I think!

There are so many fantastic athletes across other areas of the games – whether it is Max Whitlock and our brilliant gymnastics team, Tom Daley coming out of retirement to compete alongside our diving squad, Welsh sprinter Jeremiah Azu, high jumper Morgan Lake and so many more, the talent is endless.

Be sure to keep an eye on the forever-growing list of international talent showcasing why they are at the top of their fields at Paris 2024. We’ve got Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce running her final Olympics, Armand Duplantis taking us to new heights with the Pole Vault, Simone Biles returning to gymnastics and a whole host more.

So there we have it, we’re only three days in so far but what an Olympics it has been already! I can’t wait to see what else is coming over these next two weeks 🙂

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Have you been watching the Olympics? What’s your favourite sport/event to watch?

Be sure to let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
