The “What do we mean by Success?” series has been the longest running series that I have had on Sweeney’s Blogs, starting on March 16th 2020, and is going to be coming to a close for the time being. Today’s blog is going to look over some of the different topics that we have covered in the series, why it is coming to a close and if I will be bringing the series back in the near future or not.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blog is going to be a series update for my “What do we mean by Success?” series that I have been running on the page. The series started back in March 2020 and up to now has a total of 21 blogs worth of content in it. I have loved writing new blogs in this series and have loved exploring what the term “success” means to different people. To bring back something that I said in the first blog in this series, “Success” is a small word with a much bigger meaning, which differs from person to person, at the end of the day!
What Types of Success have we explored?
Throughout the 21 blogs in the series, we have tackled Success from a large assortment of different viewpoints. We have explored different types of Success, factors that can influence our version of Success and if we can attribute Success to certain skills that people possess and develop in life, such as grit, resilience and balance. We have explored Success compared against our qualifications & education, success and you social life, success and work, and so much more!
Although we have tackled different opinions, viewpoints, theories and more across the series, the overarching theme of Success has remained constant, and it is something that I wanted to talk about briefly here. Even though I have said it a lot in the series, I do think it is very important to come back to this point now, and that point is that the term “Success” means something different to each and every person, and this is a good thing.

When it comes to a topic like “Success”, there is no “one size fits all” kind of approach, which is what helped make the series that much more enjoyable to write for me. Usually when I write blogs on this page, I have a very clear plan of the points that I want to make and the message that I want to get across, but this series required me to structure my writing in a completely different style.
Instead of writing in a very essay like style, I had to take more of a proposal style of writing. I would suggest ideas, then develop them and see how I could adapt them to the underlying theme of the series, which as we know is looking at what we mean by the term “Success.” The series made me think about “Success”, and even life in a very different way to what I was used to doing, which is an amazing thing in itself.
I have learned a lot through this series, I have learned about some of the different definitions that people have for a term and how these can fluctuate from one person to the next, I have explored the relationship between Success and many other parts of life, I have compared Success against skills such as one’s resilience and grit, the list goes on!
Why is the series coming to a close?
When you read through this blog, it is clear that I have really enjoyed writing the “What do we mean by Success?” series, so the question rises here, why have I chosen to close the series for the time being? The answer to that question stems from a number of different reasons, and before I go into a few of them, it is important to remember that some things in life do inevitably come to a close. The series can come back though, so don’t fret if you have been really enjoying them!

Back to the matter at hand, why is the series coming to a close, well the simple version is that I am running out of ideas to write about. When I first started to plan the series out, I had about 10-12 blogs in my head that I was going to write and then I was going to bring the series to a conclusion, little did I know that that 12 would turn into 15, and then 18, and then 21. As much as I do love writing the blogs, I have started to run out of ideas for new blogs each week.
As well as this, I have been writing the series for 7 whole months, from March right through to October and I feel like a break away from the series for a while could be a really good thing.
Will the series come back soon?
The short answer to this question is, in all honesty, I am not yet sure. I can say that I do want to bring the series back, but it all depends on what sort of ideas and blogs I come up with and want to write for the series. My current thought-process is to get a few different guest blogs for the series, as I feel like that would really help develop and expand the series more, but for the time being that is going to be a work in progress.

If you do have any ideas for blogs you want to see in the series, please do let me know though. I am always happy to hear new ideas and to see if I can convert them into potential blogs! If you would like to write a guest blog for the series, please do drop me a line too and I am sure we can work something out!
What do we mean by Success will definitely make a return at some point, so keep your eyes peeled!
