Goodbye PSP πŸ‘‹

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you’re keeping well πŸ™‚

On Saturday, Pontardawe Swimming Pool closed its doors for the final time, after over 50 years of service. We’re going to be taking a look at some of my thoughts surrounding the end of the pool in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

For me, PSP was more than just the local pool – it’s where I learnt how to swim, made lifelong friends and worked my first jobs as a Lifeguard and Swimming Teacher for Celtic Leisure for around five years. I couldn’t have picked a better place to have had my first actual job, I grew so much during my time working there, it’s crazy when you take a couple of minutes to reflect on the impact that one place can have on your life.

From competing against teams across South Wales to teaching hundreds of people how to swim, I spent more time that I could ever count at the pool. With actitivies there ranging from from morning training before school, Saturday morning staff training, swimming competions over countless weekends, the list does well and truly go on and on.

Whether it was learning first aid or dressing up as a scary carrot for our Halloween party (I’ll share the full story behind that with you all very soon πŸ˜‰ ), I’ve got so many fantastic memories. I’ll have a think about sharing some extra ones with you in the future, we’ll see how we go πŸ•ΊπŸΌ

Thanks for everything PSP, while it’s sad to see the pool close, I’m grateful for everything that I learnt over the years there. I’m looking forward to catching up with some former collegues at out reunion party at the end of the month, that’ll be a lovely night out!

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? What was your first job? What was the biggest lesson that you learnt from it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts ‡️

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
