Good afternoon,
Hope you’re keeping well 🙂
Three weeks ago, I returned to the University of Reading, to speak at its “Beyond Graduation: Life After Henley” event. We’re going to be taking a look at this in more detail in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Speaking on a panel with fellow alumni, it was brilliant to take some time to reflect on our journeys post-graduation. Back when I was a student at Reading, I always found these events to be incredibly reassuming – so as soon as I get asked to go back and participate in them, it is the easiest yes ever😁

We covered building confidence to knowing your worth, the process of securing your first job and a whole lot more. Hearing these things from real students who have been in the same shoes as current students really makes a big difference, in my opinion – it’s one thing to hear it from lecturers and staff, but from people who have been there and done it lately is so important.
It was lovely having students come up to us afterwards, asking questions and sharing their key takeaways from it all. Kickstarting lessons and sharing advice is what these things are all about – it’s what helps shape future relationships and makes the magic happen 🙂

No return to Reading is complete without some catch-ups with friends, former colleagues and lecturers – who all helped play a big part in shaping me into who I am today. I always love going back and seeing how far I have come since my student days, it’s such a warm and fulfilling feeling.
Here’s to more public speaking opportunities to come – I can’t wait to get involved with more of them 🍻

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Do you enjoy public speaking? How’s your week ahead looking?
I’d love to hear your thoughts ⤵️
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
