Good morning everyone,
Hope you’re having a lovely start to the day π
Last Sunday, I was watching the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo when I saw Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce walk on, ready to compete in the Women’s 100m Sprint event. After watching her race, I knew I had to write a blog about what an inspiration she is, which is exactly what we’re going to be doing in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, is there a more prestigious name in all of athletics?

If you haven’t heard of her, she is a Jamaican track and field sprinter competing in the 60 metres, 100m and 200m, heavily regarded as one of the greatest sprinters of all time. Her first breakthrough into the public eye was at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she won Gold in the 100m at onkly 21 years of age.
Last week, she competed aged 38, still competing with the very best in her field, how that is even possible, I’ll never know. After giving birth to her son, Zyon, back in 2017, she returned to compete and even went on to win more medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Throughout her career, she has competed in four different Olympic Games: Beijing, London, Rio and Tokyo. When asked why she was still running last week, she mentioned that she wanted to go out on her own terms, not when somebody else decided for her.
Winning eight Olympic Medals over the last 17 years, no matter what the future has in store for her, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will always be regarded as one of the best sprinters and athletes to ever compete. What an inspiration, for women, mothers, aspiring athletes and people in general.
That’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? Would you like to see more blogs like this on the page moving forward? Who is one athlete or person who has inspired you lately?
I’d love to hear your thoughts – feedback is always super appreciated and helps me to continue becoming a better writer π
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
James
