Good morning π
How are you doing lately?
The above question may seem like a short and simple one; however, it’s something so important that we should be asking each other from time to time, especially heading into the winter months. Let’s take a closer look at this in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Every December, I encourage people to try to check in with others, and indeed themselves, when they get some time. This can be a little message, an offer for a coffee or even just some chilled out time to spend collecting your thoughts and reflecting on how life has been lately.

Asking someone how they’re doing, taking the time to think about it yourself or just reminding a friend or family member that your door is open should they need it, is more important than we even realise at first.
If you live in the UK, you’ve seen the weather start to dip, becoming colder, darker, and wetter lately. These conditions don’t really make you want to head out as much, and, as a result, for some, it can increase the chance of loneliness. This is where we come in – reminding people that they’re not alone and support is available if they need it.

If you have an old schoolfriend that you haven’t seen for a while or somebody that you’ve been meaning to catch up with, but due to the business of life, have kept putting off, why not seize this opportunity and see if they’re around?
There’s no quota for this kind of thing, or a perfect frequency for how often you should or shouldn’t check in – it’s more whatever feels right to you. As Maya Angelou famously said, “Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud” – it’s such a beautiful way of phrasing the message.

It’s the 1st of December today. If everyone sends one message a week in the run-up to Christmas, think of how much difference that can make. These things all compound, and the potential difference we can make is astounding.
With that in mind, I’ll close this blog the same way I opened it. So, how are you doing lately? How are you really doing?
Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!
James
