Good morning everyone,
I hope you’re all keeping well 🙂
How you talk to yourself is really important, and if I’m honest, it’s something that I’ve always struggled with, but it’s something that I have been working a lot on improving over the last couple of years. We’re going to be exploring the topic of self-talk and the difference that it an have on your life in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
On the outside, I may seem like a super confident person, I always try to keep as positive as I can, I typically have a very happy view of the world and I am a very chatty person. However internally, sometimes it’s a whole other story – as the seeds of doubt fester and grow, my self-talk, and as a result, my self-image more generally, start to get impacted.

I believe that a lot of it comes down to my perspective on the world around me. I’m a naturally ambitious person, always trying to improve myself where I can, which on the whole is a very good thing. In saying that, over time, I have found that I can be my own biggest enemy/critic, which is something tat at one stage I thought helped me, but in reality, it started to hinder my growth and had quite a large damaging effect on how I saw myself and those around me.
It is completely natural to be a perfectionist and to always want to better yourself, but if this comes at the cost of your self-image and your overall mindset on the world, I think that calls for you to take a step back, reevaluate your situation and plan the best course of action for how you are going to move forward. For me, I realised that my self-talk was a lot lower than I would have hoped, and that this was not how I wanted it to be going forward.

Don’t you worry though, it’s something that I’ve been actively working on over the last few years, and I’ll be honest, I’ve really started to see some progress over the last 4 years or so. I am by no means an expert in this field, but I have found the process to be such an enlightening one and I’ve got to learn such a lot about myself from it all.
Research has found that positive self-talk can help lead to:
- A More Positive Outlook on Life
- Better Stress Management
- Enhanced Body Image
- Improved Self-Esteem & Wellbeing
- So much more
Your self-talk is so important, it helps set the foundation for how you view yourself, others, as well the world around you as a whole. In a world where you can anything, it is crucial that you do your very best to be kind – not just to others, but to yourself, taking the time to appreciate everything that you have achieved in life, as well as preparing yourself for whatever it is that is coming next.

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Do you ever stop and think about how you talk to yourself? How’s your week ahead looking, do you have anything nice planned? Would you like to see more blogs like this on the page going forward?
