Welcome Tom to Sweeney’s Blogs!

Good morning everyone,

I hope that you’re having a great start to the week 😊

I’m Tom, and it’s a pleasure to introduce myself as the latest addition to the team at Sweeney’s Blogs. I’d like to wish you a warm welcome to my introductory blog, where I will give you a little insight into who I am, some of the different areas that I’m interested in exploring and what I hope to develop from writing for you all.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

I am a people person… Ergh, cliché and boring Tom. I know. But it’s true. It sounds simple, however, it’s my fascination with people that has acted as the main contributor to shaping me into who I am today. I studied people at university (a degree in Sports Psychology at Loughborough University), I work in a People team (HR), and I find my energy from interacting with others, being an extrovert.

So, when Sweeney started talking about this page, with its purpose to share helpful information and talk about topics that genuinely matter to us as people, I didn’t need to know much more apart from how I signed up to contribute (all you have to do is send him a message by the way).

What can you expect to see me write about?

To be honest, I will write about whatever has absorbed me or caught my eye recently.  As you will come to see, I am a very curious and passionate person. My curiosity fuels my desire to learn, and my passion empowers me to share whatever I learn with people close to me. I suppose that’s a sentiment that we all share in life, looking to grow and develop together as a community.

Community is the keyword here. Whilst we have grown up watching inspiring yet secluded self-improvement journeys in the media (think Rocky running up the steps), I do not believe this is the optimal path to improvement. To grow we often need a push from others, whether that be encouraging words when motivation is low, or being inspired and learning from others on a similar journey.

Life is easier with a bit of accountability and encouragement. Think of it this way, a Sunflower is forced to grow as it competes for sunlight with other Sunflowers. Does a solitary Sunflower face the same challenge and competition?

Find your Sunflowers people.

If you want more nuggets of wisdom and strange analogies, I will also be covering topics such as seeking discomfort, fitness, professional growth, and all other topics that you would associate with someone desperate to develop themselves to prove their value and evolve as a person.

On that note, one of my current self-development areas is to improve my writing skills, hence starting to write for you all here on the page. Hopefully, I will blossom into a literary lothario under Sweeney’s superb tutelage… we’ll see.

I’m really looking forward to sharing this journey with you all and seeing where it’ll take us!

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Are there any topics/areas that you’d like to see me explore here on Sweeney’s Blogs? Do you have any Sunflowers spurring you on along your journey, and if not, where can you find some?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and answers to the above questions!
