Why Do I Do What I Do?

Why do I work in communications? 🤔

A lovely, recent catch-up I had with my friend Gareth inspired me to start thinking about this question last week. I’ve taken the last couple of days to reflect on the passions and roles I take on in my life, which I thought would be good to share with you all today.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

I’ve worked in communications for over six years now, with roles spanning social media, students comms, corporate comms, PR and blogging. I love working in this area and always strive to find something new to learn.

With this in mind, here are some of the reasons why I love working in comms:

🌏 Inner Curiosity – I’m fascinated by people: how we think, feel, and react to the world. I love exploring how our cultures shape our perspectives and interactions

💪 Overcoming Obstacles – Growing up with a stutter, I was often told I couldn’t work in certain roles. I want to prove that you can pursue your passion, no matter the challenges.

I’ll admit, sometimes, I have struggled a lot to work in this field with my speech, however, I understand that I am on a journey and am getting better at managing my confidence with each passing day. If anything, I believe my stutter gives me a hidden superpower, as after spending years without a voice, I fully appreciate just how important it is to have in our lives

🔓 Unlocking Potential – I believe in real people telling real stories that drive meaningful change in the world.

In my time working in comms, I have worked with so many inspiring people and businesses, hearing their stories, helping them to share them and advising them on how to maximise the difference they make in the world, which is always an absolute pleasure to do

That’s a little bit about why I do what I do, how about you? What motivates you in your life? Would you like to see more blogs like this on the page moving forward?

I’d love to hear your thoughts ⤵️

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
