Good afternoon everyone,
Hope you’re having a wonderful start to the day 🙂
I have always been fascinated by stories, whether reading them, listening to them or actively telling them. With this in mind, I want to tell you a story in today’s blog, one that is very personal to me, for I wouldn’t be here today without it.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Every time I take the train home from work, I pass a place called The Metal Box in Briton Ferry, which means a lot to me and my family. From time to time, when I’m speaking to someone new on the train, I’ll turn and tell them this story – a love story of two people, two very precious people, whose legacy will always live on.

In the New Year’s Eve Party of 1961-1962, that was the first date my grandparents, Roy and Rosemary Hopkin, ever went on. My grandfather had fancied my grandmother for a while, and this dance was the start of their love story, which would last through the rest of their lives.
Arranged by their lifelong friends, Glan and Myra, Cap (my grandfather) always said that night was when he instantly fell in love with Nana 👐

Married for over 50 years, and now laid to rest next to each other, they were an incredible couple. Going on to have two children, my mam and uncle, and four grandchildren, they’ve left such a precious legacy ❤️
I always say that I am very honoured to be known as one of the grandchildren of two such fantastic people. Kind, caring, supportive and wise, they are perfect examples of the role models we all need as we move through our lives. Although they are no longer with us in person, their lessons and love will live on forevermore.

Without The Metal Box and that party, I wouldn’t be here today, which is why it never fails to put a smile on my face. It’s fascinating how certain places have such a special hold on us.
That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Do you have a place that means a lot to you and your family? How’s your week going?
I’d love to hear your thoughts ⤵️
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
