How Writing Helped My Voice Find Confidence

Good evening everyone,

Hope you’re having a brilliant start to the week 🙂

Five months ago, I stood up to deliver my first-ever bit of public speaking at the Henley Business School. We’re going to be taking a look at that, and how writing helped me find my voice in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

Going back to where I studied as a student a couple of years ago to do a talk was a huge milestone for me. If you don’t know I went to Reading to do my undergraduate degree in Management with Information Technology between 2018 and 2022.

I used to believe that because of my stutter, public speaking would never be possible, however, here’s what I realised – I’ve been “speaking” in public for years – through Sweeney’s Blogs and my posts on LinkedIn 😎

Every post I’ve written has been a form of expression, of evolving, of self-discovery. Saying as I have done over 600 blogs and LinkedIn posts over the last couple of years, it’s safe to say that I have had a load of practice on this!

All of these posts have helped me refine my thoughts, build confidence and reinforce that my voice matters – whether spoken or written.

Content creation gave me the space to tell my story. When I got on stage, I was sharing something I had already been shaping through my writing for years. To anyone else who doubts themselves: Your voice is stronger than you think 💪

Your story deserves to be heard, whether it’s through speaking, writing, or something else entirely. In some good news, I’ll be coming back to HBS to do a talk this Thursday, which is super exciting! I’ll do a wrap-up post on it afterwards 🙂

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? What’s one thing that’s taught you to be confident? Would you like to see more blogs like this moving forward?

I’d love to hear your thoughts ⤵️

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
