Let’s talk about changing your job…

Good morning everyone,

I hope you’re having a fab start to the week 🙂

Changing jobs is something that the vast majority of people experience from time to time in their lives, however, it’s not a topic that’s spoken about perhaps as much as it should be. I want to help change that, which is exactly what we will focus on in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

Three weeks ago, I left my role at The Jargon Group after working there for over two and a half years. The last couple of weeks have been an experience that I wanted to be open and honest with myself about and share the lessons and learnings along the way, in case you can relate or they can help you.

Whatever the reason, transitioning to a new role can be a highly confusing time for people. It’s exciting, as we live in a world filled with all sorts of opportunities, scary, as we may be leaving something we have gotten comfortable with after a while, daunting, as you worry if you’re “good” enough for a new role and a whole host of other feelings.

A lot of the internal thoughts and feelings which come into play are partially tied to the mindset you choose to view your current circumstances under. For me, I knew that I wanted to switch things up, and as additional factors came into play, my choice was fast-tracked a lot quicker than originally planned. This could be viewed as scary, or you could view it through a growth mindset of it’s the closing of one chapter, so a new one can begin.

When it comes to looking for what is next, that is also down to your existing situation. If you need money to pay bills and have other responsibilities, you may have to secure a new opportunity a lot faster than someone without them – that’s not necessarily a “good” or “bad” thing; it all depends on how you understand and apply it to your life.

I have a rough plan in place for what I want to do next with my life. I like to add flexibility to the plan, as I know how unpredictable life can be, but my rough vision sets the foundation on which I can build as I move further. I’m not exactly sure of what is going to come next, but what I can say for sure is I am ready to tackle it with an open and positive mind.

I wasn’t sure whether I should or shouldn’t do a post like this; however, after sitting down to draft it, I feel like posts like these are what we need to see more of in the world. I don’t have all of the answers, but, in all honesty, who does? I’ll keep you all in the loop as the situation develops and I have more of a clear pathway to whatever lies next for me.

Until the next one, thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!
