A Sweeney in Kent…

Good afternoon,

Hope you’re having a brilliant start to the weekend 🙂

Last weekend, 23 of us from the Undefinable Community travelled over to Kent for our Spring Retreat. We’ll take a look at some of what we got up to and my thoughts about it all in today’s blog. 🌻

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

Wonderfully organised by three of our members, Bhaswant, Kyle and Molly, this trip was focused on our shared value of collective responsibility. We define this as “leaving people, places and projects better than when we found them, which is exactly what we set out to do with this retreat.

So what did we get up to? Here’s a little rundown ⤵️

👐 Had a masterclass on inclusive design from our friend Rob and an incredibly interesting introduction to allergies and anaphylaxis from Zak. Both Zak and Rob run businesses in these respective fields, so it was great to see their passion and expertise take centre stage.

✍️ Katie and I hosted a session, encouraging people to write letters to elderly people facing loneliness, reminding them of their value and that they are being thought of in the world. This was a load of fun and has given me an idea for an extra project that I’d love to start working on soon.

🏊 Swam in the pool we had in the house, went on a scavenger hunt (organised by two of our crazy members), sang classic cheesy songs and had some lovely catch-ups.

🪴 Volunteered in a local community garden, helping them with weeding, planting a hedgerow and supporting potato plants

This was my sixth retreat with our group, and each one has this magic that’s difficult to put into words. Although these trips are only for a weekend, I could go on and on about the amazing stuff we get up to on them – it’s such a special group.

Here’s to loads more memories, crazy times and days spent with amazing people 🤝

Thanks to my good friend Dan for letting me stay at his house on the day before, to break up the journey – much appreciated!

What does collective responsibility mean to you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts ⤵️

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
