How do you reflect on your life?

Good morning 🌅

What’s something that’s brought a smile to your face lately?

I love asking questions like this – ones which genuinely make you stop, pause and reflect on the beautiful mystery that is each of our lives. We’re going to be following that train of thought in today’s blog, as I fancy doing something a little bit different.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

Over the seven years of running this page, I’ve had the pleasure of writing in all sorts of different ways. More recently, I’ve been enjoying doing blogs that are a bit shorter, more so focused on encouraging you to think about how you might answer or reflect on certain questions.

I’d like to do something similar today; however, instead of looking to the future, like I usually do, I want to ask you to take a step back and follow me on a journey as we think about our pasts.

These are some questions that come to mind:

😁 Can you think of a memory where you felt the happiest or most natural?

🤔 Can you think of a really challenging time that, when looking back, you are proud of getting past? What was it, and how did you get through it? How did it shape you into who you are today?

😎 How would a younger version of you view the you of today? Would they recognise the person you’ve become? The progress you’ve made?

😅 Is there something from a past version of you that you’re still trying to forgive yourself for or move past? What is it, and what’s stopping you from letting it go?

🙌 What’s a small moment from your past which has impacted the direction you’ve decided to take your life in more than you realised at the time?

👀 Who is someone who influenced you more than you may have originally noticed? In what ways did they support or change the way you think?

Sometimes, I like to put a half-hour slot in my calendar and sit in my thoughts while these questions spring to mind. Learning how to embrace those moments can be really tricky, especially at first; however, they’ve really helped me understand and value the craziness that has been my life.

I wasn’t originally planning to write this kind of blog today, but a call on Wednesday with a new mate of mine, Felix, sparked the idea – so a shout out to him there! I met Felix in person two weeks ago, when I was in London, at a party for the Undefinable Community’s third birthday. We didn’t get to chat too much on the night, as the party was super busy, so we decided to have a call to make up for it.

Felix is the type of person who asks questions you don’t hear very often, the kind that go a little deeper and help you properly understand each other. I might do a similar blog in the future, which includes some of the questions he asked me, as they were fantastic.

On the topic of shouting out more individual people, that’s something I want to do more of on here moving forward. It’s something I’ve done quite a lot passively already, but instead of speaking about people more generally, I want to start being more intentional with it.

I’m not 100% on how I’m going to do that, so I’ll keep you in the loop as I figure it out!

That’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? Do you enjoy asking yourself questions like this from time to time? Would you like to see more blogs like this on the page?

I’d love to hear what you think 😊

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!
