Good morning everyone,
I hope you’re all having a lovely start to the week 🙂
Last Thursday was A Level Results Day and as we look at the week ahead, with the upcoming GCSE Results Day, we are going to see millions of students anxiously waiting to find out their grades. So in the spirit of this, we’re going to be taking a look at my thoughts surrounding these days in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Six years ago, I was heartbroken to find out that I did nowhere near as well as what I was predicted to achieve. My results were way lower than I what I was expecting and it absolutely floored me 😥

At the time, my mental floodgates opened, with questions like “am I good enough?”, “how did I mess up so badly” and more starting to make their way into my thoughts. When things like this happen, it is so easy for them to spiral into much bigger problems/potential issues, so addressing them sooner rather than later is incredibly report.
After a little bit of reflection, I found that I had failed to recognise and appreciate just how well I did under my circumstances, facing an extremely challenging time for both my physical and mental health. I didn’t factor in how much of an impact the obstacles that I was experiencing in my life could have on my productivity and overall academic performance – I quickly started to see that while the grades were not what I was hoping for, to make it through the course in the first place was a massive success.

I decided to take a little time out to evaluate my options and decided to change my tactics a bit. Instead of going back to college, I balanced two Higher Education courses and two jobs simultaneously, which helped me in securing my place to study at the University of Reading for the following year, which was my dream place to go to university 🧑💻
When I was growing up, I always thought that people followed the exact same route to university (Primary School -> Secondary School -> College -> University), but in reality, it is rarely ever that simple. We all have our own obstacles and pathways that we need to identify and explore as we go through life. I am a firm believer that there is always a lesson to be learnt in life, whether that’s for something that has gone well or otherwise, there is always scope for improvement.

I’ve come such a long way over the last couple of years, with my A Level Results Day experience helping to shape me into the person that I am to this day. I’ve since graduated with a 2:1 in my Management with Information Technology course and have been able to do so many incredible things in my life. When I look ahead to the future, I know that there are going to be a load of twists and turns, but I am confident that it’ll make me into a better person overall 🎓
Moral of the story – no matter what tomorrow may have in store, you’ll always find your way. You’re on your own journey, who knows what the future may have in store for you 🙂

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? What’s been your biggest leaning curve in life so far? What’s one of the proudest things that you have ever bounced back from?
Be sure to let me know your answer to the above questions, either in the comments below or through our Facebook page.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
