Good afternoon everyone,
I hope you’re keeping well 🙂
Sometimes life can get very stressful, and it’s in these moments that a lot of us forget to make time for ourselves. I used to be incredibly guilty of doing this, until a couple of years ago, when I decided to create my new self-care technique, which I refer to as my “Sweeney Spaces”. We’ll be taking a look at these in today’s blog!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
A “Sweeney Space” refers to something that I would do at least once a day, where I would give myself 30 minutes – an hour where I could do whatever I wanted. Whether this was going for a walk, reading a book, watching a comfort show on Netflix, or anything that I was feeling like doing on the day.

The spaces help me to regain some control, they are a conscious decision that I take to ensure balance in my crazy life. They ensure that while you are focusing on completing your other tasks and responsiblities on a given day, you aren’t forgetting to look after yourself, giving yourself time to be a human and to enjoy each day as much as you can.
If I was having a particularly stressful day, I would give myself two or three spaces, to give myself the time that I need to relax, recharge and refocus. As these are spaces that you create for yourself, it’s up to you how many you need in any given week, it depends on your worklod, on your stress level, on you as a person – there is no “one size fits all” answer to these kind of things. 🙏

My good friend Maya spoke about this a couple of weeks back, where she shared that she blocks time out on her calendar specifically for these kinds of breaks, which I think is a fantastic idea. It takes the initial concept one step further, where you aren’t just telling yourself, but other people that you are taking some time out for yourself, it’s a very powerful thing to do.
So there we have it, there’s a brief introduction for I like to refer to as my “Sweeney Spaces”, I hope you’ve found them interesting!
That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? Are you going to start taking some time out of your day to give back to yourself? How do you relax and recharge in your life?
I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
