Hey everyone,
It’s Tom here, how’s everything going with you lately?
Some of you here will be avid video game players, some of you will play video games occasionally, some of you used to play them, and some of you have never picked up a controller in your life (really?). Regardless of which applies to you, hopefully, you’ll be able to resonate with the message of today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
When you play video games you earn XP (experience points). With most games, you use these XP points to level up elements of your character, and it feels amazing. With time and effort, you unlock new abilities, new equipment and new possibilities that help you to better enjoy the game. It is the constant improvement which keeps the game new and exciting.
I have a question to ask you, how is your life any different?

While I fully understand that regardless of the time and effort invested in our world you can’t increase your ability to use magic or walk around with a bigger axe on your back, however, the underlying emotion that fuels your excitement remains the same.
You may not be preparing to do combat with a dragon, but you are facing challenges every day. Work stress, relationship breakdowns, and physical and mental health, they are all obstacles we must learn to overcome. When you can shift your mindset to see every failure as an opportunity for growth, the world looks a little different; a little less like the grey shades of normality, and a little more like the vibrant colours of the fantasy worlds many of us choose to escape to.

When you look at your life, what areas do you want to level up? Your physical health, your professional skills, your personal relationships? Maybe you have always wanted to learn guitar?
So do it. Take the time to earn your XP points and learn the skills that allow you to level up.
If you are reading this feeling like you do not know where to start, and that your obstacles are too large to overcome, I will leave you with one of my favourite quotes from Thomas Fuller: “It’s always darkest before the dawn”.
That’s it for now, until next time, wishing you all the best,
