Goodbye Dear Stranger – Poem

I wanted to write a poem to you today called “Goodbye Dear Stranger”. It’s all about two people who meet on a cold winter’s night, and how their connection takes them on a journey from mere strangers to good friends. I hope you enjoy giving it a read!

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

We met on a cold winter’s night, as your hat flew in the billowing breeze,
We were young and ambitious, however, deeply lost, or so it seems,
You looked at me deeply, with a smile on your face,
As the Christmas lighting warmed this cosy shared space,
While preparing to go, you looked at me to say,
Goodbye my dear stranger, may our paths cross again someday.

Some time has passed since I was last in your presence,
I look back at the meeting fondly, memories adorned with pleasance,
As snow flew outside, coating the pavements with its touch,
We both lit up the room as if we were each other’s endearing crutch,
While preparing to leave, you looked at me to say,
“Goodbye my dear stranger, I’m so glad to have come this way.”

One year later, I returned to where we met but twelve months ago,
The cabin’s looking splendid, each room filled with decorations aglow,
I wait patiently to see you as if you’ve also received this mental calling,
However, as time begins to pass, the stars begin to rise as the sun starts falling,
While preparing to leave, I catch sight of a card shimmering in white,
“Goodbye my dear stranger,”, it reads, “May we always remember that night.”

As I stand in the fading light, memories of our brief encounter flood my mind,
Your aura was truly magnificent, your spirit shining and kind,
Many years have now passed, however, is that you I see before me,
I don’t quite believe my eyes, my whole body fills with glee,
You let out a soft chuckle and you look at me to say,
“Goodbye my dear stranger, as we’ve journeyed from the start,
Transformed from passing souls to friends, forever in my heart.”
