A Sweeney in Austin πŸ€

Good morning πŸŒ…

How’s the week ahead looking for you?

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Austin, Texas, for a week, as the final part of my 2026 US adventure. We’re going to take a look at some of what I got up to in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

When it came to planning my US trip for this year, I knew from the start that it had to be to New Orleans and Austin. New Orleans, as we’ve spoken about in my last two blogs here on the page, was more for the cultural side – Austin was where we got to socialise and party.

Which, surprise, surprise, is exactly what ended up happening πŸ˜‚

After a pretty crazy New Orleans visit, I aimed to make Austin a bit more relaxed, and what a blast it turned out to be. Here’s a photo of me and the guys from St Patrick’s Day:

Here we were at Perla’s, down South Congress Road – to start off the celebrations

Here are some of my highlights from the trip:

πŸ‘‹ Catching up in person with my friends Aidan, Carson and Sarah is always a pleasure.

It was so cool to be able to meet Bharat, Chris, Dylan, Dom, Enara, Gavin, Jake, Jordan and Manny for the first time too! I met all of these awesome people through LinkedIn – it’s crazy how 95% of my closest friends come from that platform. I love nothing more than meeting up with people from there, having a blast, and feeling instantly at home, wherever it is we are meeting.

🀝 Exploring the Capitol Building (plus a guided tour!) and the University of Texas’ campus.

You know full well that I was wandering around the campus for ages, chatting away to students, professors, tour guides, you name it. It made for such a nice day out – I had so many awesome conversations and met some really nice people along the way.

🍽️ Finally tasting proper Texas BBQ, TexMex, Texas Steakhouse and, strangely enough, oysters (cheers Aidan there), and a whole load more. The food in Texas is amazing – so so so good.

🍻 Having a couple of pints, partying and meeting new people from all over the globe

🚢 Walking around beautiful areas such as Barton Springs, Ladybird Lake, Zilker Metropolitan Park and more

You get views like this all over Austin, it’s such a picturesque place

To everyone who’s helped me or been a part of this trip, thank you so much – I am beyond grateful to have been able to do it 🫢

Austin is a beautiful city. I can definitely see why so many people decide to live there. It feels like the most homely place I’ve visited in the US so far, I’ll deffo be back one day, hopefully, soon.

Until next time, America – you were a pleasure. Who knows where I’ll end up next? πŸ‘€

That’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? Where’s next on your travel list?

I’d love to hear what you think.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!

James
