A Day in Baltimore – a Sweeney story

Good morning 👋

Who’s one person you’re grateful to have in your life lately?

This Thursday marks a year since I was in Baltimore, the fourth stop of my 2025 US tour. I want to do something a little different for today’s blog, and take a trip down memory lane, taking a look at some of the things I got up to in Baltimore, as it was such a fun day for me.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

When I first considered going to the US, I was going to fly into New York, and then somehow find my way over to Baltimore, to see my friend Aidan, before figuring out how I was going to get back. I’d never planned a trip at this scale, so I was a bit nervous about what to do.

However, it turns out I had nothing at all to worry about.

After jumping on a call with Aidan, he helped me plan a route that would take me from New York through Princeton, Philadelphia, Baltimore, finishing in DC. I’ve spoken a little bit about what I got up to in some of the other stops I had along my little tour, but, for some reason, I haven’t properly shared some of what I got up to while in Baltimore – which is exactly what we’ll fix today!

I arrived in Baltimore on the morning of Tuesday, 27th March, with Aidan picking me up from the Amtrak station. He then caught me up on some of the things to see in the city, while we drove to his place, picking up my first Chick-fil-A on the way, before chilling out for a bit.

As it was during the week, Aidan had to jump on some calls and get some work done, so we headed down to the harbour – where he went off to work, and I got a chance to explore Baltimore. I got to wander around the famous George Peabody Library, seeing the Lafayette, Washington and Willaim Donald Schaefer statues, before stopping off at Federal Hill.

If you haven’t heard of Federal Hill before, it’s a lovely little hill, which was a short walking loop at the top, with some stunning views of the entire harbour. Here’s a photo I had taken from uo there:

I managed to chat to loads of different people while relaxing on Federal Hill. I love those random conversations, those moments of connection that show of the magic of people, of interaction, of friendliness.

After that, we went back to chill out for a bit before going to my first-ever game of baseball at the Orioles stadium. Will, one of Aidan’s best friends, joined us, and it ended up being such a lovely evening out.

I tried crab for the first time, sang a bunch of random pop-punk songs with the guys, and had a great time watching the game. Afterwards, it was awesome to meet Aidan’s sister Hannah and her boyfriend Brady, who gave us a lift back home. You can’t beat a day out with good people.

When you get to meet some new faces along the way, too, that’s the cherry on top. As I was looking through some photos the other day, I came across this one from the Orioles game, that inspired this blog:

Here’s to loads more trips, days out and time spent with amazing people 🤝

That’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? Who’s one person that’s made you smile recently?

I’d love to hear what you think 😌

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!

James
