Poetry – the key to managing stress?

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you’ve all had an excellent week so far 🙂

Writing poetry has always been a very relaxing process for me, it’s been the perfect way for me to share my thoughts in a way that makes sense to me. So with that in mind, today’s blog is going to explore the topic of poetry, and how it can be used as a brilliant stress reliever.

Hello & Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

When I was younger, I used to find it really hard to express myself and share what I wanted to say. When my emotions were high, it would cause my speech to go all over the place and my stutter to fly way out of control 😅

I don’t really know why, but every time I found myself stressed, I would take some time to sit down and write a poem. I found that taking a little bit of time to sit down and channel my feelings into a poem was a truly cathartic experience. It feels like it’s my way of letting go of the things that are troubling my mind, in a calm and controlled manner 😁

Over the years, I’ve written poems on so many different topics, from my grandmother’s Alzheimer’s to my control over my speech, my mental health journey to limericks about friends and the world around us, I’ve done loads! The main thing for me is having a muse or a topic to write about, that’s what makes the whole process that much more worthwhile, when you are writing about something that genuinely matters to you.

Poetry has helped me to understand, process and appreciate so many of the different experiences in my life, I honestly don’t know where I would be without it. If you would be interested in checking out some of my poems, be sure to check out my Poetry Corner page – hope you like them!!

I’m thinking about getting back into writing poetry again in the near future, you never know, I may start posting some more of my work here, be sure to keep an eye out for them 😉 👀

That’s all for today’s blog, what do you think? We all have our own ways of dealing with stress, what’s yours? Are you a fan of writing poems? Would you be interested in seeing me share some of my poems on the page?

Be sure to let me know your thoughts and answers to the above questions 🙂

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
