Good afternoon everyone,
I hope you’re all keeping well 🙂
Around a year ago, I had a lovely chance encounter with a lady called Avril on my train home from work that has really stuck with me over the last 12 months. I wanted to take a trip down memory lane and share the story with you all today, so, let’s get to it.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Last year, I was on the train home from Cardiff Central, reading my Kindle as I usually do, when the lady next to me offered me some of her KitKat Bites out of the blue. I politely declined, as I was going to be having food as soon as I got home, however, I then started to have a conversation with her, which ended up lasting the full journey home!

I found out that she was called Avril and that she had travelled all the way down from Aberystwyth to spend the day with two of her grandchildren in Cardiff. We spoke about loads of different things, from my job to hobbies, technology, how the world has changed over the last 30 years and so much more.
Avril was such a lovely lady and you should have seen the smile on her face when she told me that she was going to be celebrating her 55th wedding anniversary the following Thursday – it was priceless!

Just before I was due to get off the train, she turned to me and said “James, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me today, your parents must be incredibly proud of you”, which was a lovely thing for her to say.
Avril put a massive smile on my face, and I think it’s very safe to say that I’ll never forget our conversation. Moments like this remind me that you never know who you might meet as you go through life. A simple offering of some chocolate on a train home has turned into such a precious story that I’ll take with me through life, how magical is that? 👐

That’s all for today, what do you think? What’s one interaction that you’ve had lately that’s helped bring a smile to your face? What’s one memory that you always look back on fondly?
I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
