Good morning,
Hope you’re having a brilliant start to the day 🙂
A couple of weeks ago, I was on a mini-tour of the US, where I was fortunate enough to speak with people from all over the globe. We’re going to be taking a look at how starting conversations is a lot easier than you think in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Something I love about solo travelling is how it encourages you to chat to all sorts of different people whom you might never have spoken to otherwise. During my first day in New York, I was on a guided tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with a load of complete strangers 🗽

I ended up speaking to people from 10 different States, as well as tourists from Italy, Germany and Belgium, all on the tour with me.
How did I do it? Am I some sort of wizard?
To tell you the truth, most of the time, I just start a chat with “hey, how’s it going?”, or “would you mind taking my photo?”. I did shamelessly start one conversation off with “she’s looking a bit green, reckon she’s seasick?”, but hey ho, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do 😂

People are usually super happy to help or stop for a chat, if they have the time, it’s just sometimes they need someone to make the first move.
Don’t get me wrong, I used to be terrified of doing this, but it deffo does get way easier with practice. I’ve met so many amazing people through these random chats over the years, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
That’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? Do you enjoy chatting to new people? How do you go about starting the conversation?
I’d love to hear your thoughts ⤵️
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
