Want to know an underrated thing to do in your life?

Good morning πŸ‘‹

How’s your week started off?

One thing I’ve been trying to do a lot more of over the last couple of years is to regularly treat myself. It’s a concept or part of a routine that I feel is underrated by so many people, and is what we’re going to be taking a closer look at in today’s blog.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

When I was growing up, I used to say, “I can’t wait to see or do ABC or visit XYZ when I’m older”. It’s something I said for loads of different things, and over time, I realised that instead of wishing or hoping it’ll happen in the future, why don’t I put the foundations in place now?

If the last couple of years have taught me anything, it’s that we don’t have a clue what’s coming next in our lives. This is something I’ve mentioned quite a lot on here over recent years; however, it’s only becoming more and more poignant.

We’re currently living in what can only be described as an uncertain time. The last couple of years have been anything but predictable, and when we look at what’s to come, the super exciting and possibility-filled future that it is, who knows where we’ll end up? Do you know one thing that can be in your control though?

It’s how you treat yourself and others, reflect on your journey and give yourself credit for the things you do in life. You’re probably doing more than you realise at first. Sometimes, it’s about allowing yourself to have that bit of freedom, that treat, no matter what the reward or ‘treat’ actually is.

Let me give you a little example of how this can work in reality:

Two weeks ago, I turned 27 years old. Some friends and I had been looking at going to watch the Percy Jackson musical when it came to the Cardiff Millennium Centre (it was there from the 21st to the 24th of January 2026). It turns out that, in the end, my friends couldn’t make the trip anymore, and I thought “that’s a shame, and I may as well give the show a miss.”

About a day or two after, I was sitting there, and then it finally dawned on me – “Why don’t I just go solo?” I mean, I’ve been on holiday by myself, treat myself to little solo days out and more, so why miss out on something that I really did want to do?

What did I end up doing? I booked the tickets, of course, and then after working Thursday morning, I drove to Cardiff Bay ready to catch the afternoon screening at 14:30:

I used the tickets as my birthday present to myself, and ended up having a brilliant time. I even went to Wagamama’s for food before heading home, a proper self-care afternoon out, just what the doctor ordered.

Is this something that I’ll do all the time? Well, that depends on the schedule for what shows are coming up πŸ˜‰ – only kidding, giving myself these little things from time to time is 100% what I’m going to carry on doing. It doesn’t matter on the scale or number of people that are with you – it’s about giving yourself the permission to have some time off work to live your life and have fun.

I’m by no means a master at this; however, I’ve been getting a lot better at it lately. I like to try to practice what I preach, so you can be sure that I’ll be doing more things like this moving forward – I’ll be bringing you guys along for the ride, don’t you worry 😎

Anyways, that’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? Would you like to see more of this kind of personal thought dumps, turned blogs on the page moving forwards What’s one thing you’ve done for yourself lately?

I’d love to know your answers to the above questions 😌

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!

James
