Gooood afternoon π
How’s your weekend started off?
Today is October 31st 2026, so you know what that means… It’s a Saturday.
In all seriousness, it’s Halloween, the spookiest day of the year for people all across the globe. With that in mind, I bet you can’t guess what today’s blog is about.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
I haven’t talked much about Halloween here over the last seven and a half years. I’m not really sure why that is – it’s all a bit of a mystery to me.

When I think about the holiday when I was growing up, Halloween used to be a great laugh – whether it was getting dressed up for football parties, going trick-or-treating, or some of the Halloween specials on TV. It was awesome.
Then, when I was 19, I went off to the University of Reading to study for four years, and that’s where the Halloween House Parties and nights out took it to a whole other level of craziness. It was where some of my more notable outfit choices came from, such as the below, where I went dressed as one of the Inflatable Tube Man costumes from outside a car dealership back in 2021:

However, whenever I think of this time of year, there’s one story that always puts a smile on my face.
It’s from back in the days when I was a lifeguard and swimming teacher, involving a boy I used to teach called Jack. It’s one I share on here every year, and one that I love to tell others all about.
If you haven’t heard it before, or want a little reminder, be sure to check it out ‡οΈ
While I haven’t gone out for Halloween in a few years, I’m sure there’ll be a return of the elaborate and wacky Sweeney costumes at some stage in the future. Leave it to me to think of some creative ones; I’m sure something will come to mind π€£
Anyways, for now, I reckon this is a good spot to start to bring this blog to a close.
Before I do that, here are some questions to have a think about over this weekend:
π» What’s a Halloween memory or story you love to think back on?
π What’s something that used to scare you, but not anymore?
π What’s a fear you haven’t yet confronted, but are determined to do so as we look ahead to 2027?
And with that, I send you my very best. Thanks a million for reading, for being a part of the journey, and I shall see you in the next one.
