International Day of Charity 2021

Tomorrow, Sunday the 5th of September 2021, is International Day of Charity 2021. This is a very special day designed to encourage people from all around the world to help & support others through volunteer & philanthropic events. We are going to be taking a look at this great day in today’s blog!

Hello & Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

International Day of Charity was chosen to be on the 5th of September every year, to commemorate the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa, who sadly passed away on September 5th 1997 at the age of 87 in Calcutta, India. Mother Teresa helped change the world, by reminding us all of what universal love really means.

She dedicated her life to caring for & supporting others, which led to her being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 & is why her legacy impacts us all to this day. Mother Teresa was an incredible person, and this is the reason why this special day is held in her honour.

Supporting charities is something that has always been very close to my heart. Throughout my life, I have taken part in so many different fundraising activities, including funs runs in school, Swimmathons for Marie Curie, Brass Band fundraising concerts & my Charity Tandem Skydive, where I jumped out of a plane at 12,000 feet, raising over £900 for The Alzheimer’s Society.

I see people taking on new charity fundraising challenges on a daily basis, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. We all have the potential to make a difference in this world, and when that difference directly supports & aids somebody in need, what else could you ask for in life! Whether you are currently raising money for something, or have done so in the past, thank you so much!
