Good morning π
Hope you’re having a lovely start to the weekend!
When this post goes live, I’m going on a family holiday back to Donegal in Ireland, where the Sweeneys first came from. We’re going to be taking a trip down memory lane in today’s blog, as we bring the Grianan of Aileach back to the page.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Four years ago, a week after graduating from the University of Reading back in July 2022, we went over to Ireland for a week. While visiting my grandfather’s old house, the Giant’s Causeway and more spots around there, we decided to add one extra spot to our plan, a historic ring fort called the Grianan of Aileach.
I’m a huge fan of the mythologies from across the world, and it was only a few weeks before going on this trip that I found out that the spot was so close to where we were staying. What’s so special about this landmark? Well, here’s the original blog I wrote about it back in 2022:
I’m sure we’ll find a spot sometime this week to head back to the ringfort and properly check it out. The last time we visited was during the summer holidays, so it was super busy with people visiting and relaxing there – part of me is hoping it’ll be a lot quieter this time around π
There is a little museum and place nearby that we only explored very, very briefly the last time around, so maybe we’ll check those out. I’ll update you all if we learn anything new, don’t you worry!

I’ll probably do a full Ireland wrap-up post after getting back, we’ll see what happens there and what comes to mind. Of course, there’ll be blogs going live here on the page as normal, so nothing will change there – I’m too prepared for that to happen π
Would you be interested in seeing more blogs like this on the page? Taking a look at different historical landmarks across the globe, their stories and more? Let me know if so and I can see if I can make it happen for you.
Until next time though, thanks a lot for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!
James
