How’s your weekend going so far?
Last weekend, 17 of us travelled to Scotland to catch the final weekend of the 79th Edinburgh Fringe, and what an incredible time it was. We’ll take a look at some of my thoughts about it in today’s blog.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
If you haven’t heard of the Fringe before, it’s a three-week festival of the arts every August across Edinburgh – covering everything from comedy to musicals, the circus to dance, street performers and more. It’s a month of pure craziness, all in the best way.
Last year was my first time going to the Fringe, and I had an absolute whale of a time. I do feel like I had way more of an idea about what was going on this time around, which made it all that much better.
I got to watch around 16 shows this time around:
Ranging from a couple of Greek mythology shows to a fully improvised musical (which was called “The Vanilla Killa”, all about the dark secrets of an ice cream van 🍦), talks on the greatest mistakes in history, to comedies about the Police Cops in Space, it was bonkers. I don’t really know another way to describe the Fringe – every show is so different, but so well made, you can see the time, thought and care that has gone into every single one 🔥
And, of course, like all good trips, a night out at a jazz bar was included – that’s just par for the course at the end of the day.
This year’s trip came with a few little added bonuses too – being able to catch the train up to Scotland with some of the guys, getting to climb up Arthur’s Seat with my friends Molly and Garth, getting to sing a bit of Barry White at our AirBnB, the list goes on.
If you haven’t booked a trip away with friends for a while, I deffo recommend getting one in soon – you never know what sort of wacky memories you’ll make along the way. I’ve had so many awesome trips so far throughout 2026, and there’s still plenty of time to get some more under the belt.
Did I forget to get a whole group photo of us all? Yes, but we do have these two, which have the vast majority of us 😂
Edinburgh, you were an absolute pleasure. We’re already chatting about booking next year’s trip, so until next time – see ya soon. Next year is going to be the 80th year of the Fringe, so I’m sure there’ll be some extra bits of madness dotted throughout it all.
