Good morning ๐
Hope you’re having a lovely start to the day!
I like to think of myself as someone who asks good questions – the ones that make you stop for a minute and really think before answering. I’ve been testing out some of these questions lately – whether in networking events or catch-ups with friends, and wanted to ask one to you today.
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
I’ve always believed that a good conversation is always fuelled by a good question, which is made up of the question itself, how it is asked, how it is received, and how we use it to better understand someone as a person. Learning how to take this isn’t just a skillset, it’s an invitation to connect, to learn, to grow.
When done well, it can create a real moment of beauty.

So, for today, I want to ask you this:
What’s the best compliment you have ever received and/or given?
I want you to spend some time thinking this over.
Who said it to you? Why did it matter? How did it make you feel at the time, versus now?

If you’d be interested in hearing my answers, my favourite compliment that I have ever received was from my friend Hannah, who sent me a voice note saying this last year:
โI was trying to figure out what song you remind me of, and Iโve realised that you are the human form of Hakuna Matata, (Add a little snippet of Hannah singing the song here ๐), because every time I look at you, Iโm like – โAh, thereโs nothing to worry about, it means no worries for the rest of your days as Sweeney is hereโโ
When it comes to the best one I have ever given, that’s a tricky one. I try to make my compliments very visual, so that someone can picture what I’m saying and what it means to them. Here’s one I gave to someone recently that I liked:
“Youโre like a blooming flower- already brilliant, but not yet aware of how awesome youโll be in full blossom”
After thinking of your answers, I encourage you to sit with those feelings, and how hearing that compliment for the first time made you feel – as well as how we can help replicate that to other people.
Remember, above everything – you never know the difference a compliment, a message or a comment can make to someone’s life.
On that lovely note, thanks for reading, I hope you have a fab rest of your day and I shall see you soon ๐
