New writing work ✅

Good afternoon 👋

How’s the week ahead looking for you?

Over the last seven years, I’ve shared a lot about myself and my story. I’ve always liked the idea of “building in public” – creating content that’s shaped around who I am as a real person. As James Sweeney.

However, what does that actually mean? 🤷‍♂️

That’s exactly what we’re going to be taking a look at today.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

For me, building in public (BIP) is all about documenting, or sharing, the journey, process or story as it happens. This includes, but is certainly not limited to:

👋 The people you meet and get to know along the way,

🧠 The random ideas and thoughts which can spring to mind at any point

✅ The success and lessons learnt that all shape where you’re heading

At its core, it’s about being human. It’s about taking the time to understand, appreciate, and celebrate what makes you, you.

This, as I’m sure you know, isn’t a static thing. We, as people, are always growing – meeting new people, learning new things, facing different situations as we move through life. BIP encompasses these, following along and joining in with the journey that we’re on through this crazy adventure that is our lives.

When it comes to sharing how people can start doing BIP more in their work, I love using people like Louis as the perfect example, with what he’s doing with his business, Clear For Men.

Louis is a friend I first made through LinkedIn back in 2024/2025. Originally from Newport, he’s doing a fab job of raising mental health awareness with his facial cleanser. I was lucky enough to meet him in person for the first time in Cardiff last year, and he’s just as lovely in person as he is online.

I take a much closer look at this (using Louis as my case study) in my latest article for Startups Magazine, which you can check out here.

A huge thanks to Anna and the Startups Magazine team for publishing the article for me. It’s always a pleasure to work with you guys.

That’s all for today’s blog. What do you think? What’s one topic or area you’d like to see me explore on the page moving forward?

If you do give it a read, I’d love to know what you think 😊

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!

James Sweeney
