Good afternoon π
How’s your day started so far?
I’ve officially been selected as an Ambassador for this year’s SMCC – what does this mean?
Well, that’s what today’s blog is going to be about. So, let’s take a look π
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
If you haven’t heard of SMCC before:
It’s one of the biggest social media conferences in the UK, designed to bring together Welsh creatives to network, discuss the latest changes in the industry, and have an all-around lovely day out.

After going to the first conference back in 2023, it’s been fantastic seeing how much they’ve grown over the years. Starting out with arund 180 attendees in 2023, last year’s conference nearly hit the 400 attendee mark, which is absolutely insane.
What I love the most about events such as this is the sheer range of conversations that can happen at any one time within a single room. You get people speaking in Welsh and English, some from the public sector, some from the private, in all sorts of industries, backgrounds and passions.
You never know what each conference is going to have in store. While the sessions always make for very interesting watches, I really enjoy walking around and chatting with people – learning their stories, aspirations, and the change they want to help make happen in our industry.

As an Ambassador for this year’s conference, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to see a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes – helping take part in discussions around the schedule, how we canmake the day as accessible as possible, different versions of networking, welfare, and a whole load more.
It’s given me a proper appreciation for how much preparation goes into days like this. Every decision takes care, time, and personalisation to match the needs of attendees, speakers, hosts and more. What an honour it has been to be a part of soemthing so brilliant for Wales.
2026’s conference is going to be on Wednesday, 30th September, at the Holland House in Cardiff. Thanks a lot to Alun and Elan for asking me to be an Ambassador; I’ve loved helping plan out this year’s conference.

Here’s to another fab one. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes π
I’ve actually been thinking of doing some more posts on communications and the kinds of things I do for work here on the page for a while. I’m not exactly sure how it’s going to work yet, but leave it with me, and I’ll see what sort of ideas come to mind!
Until then, though, thanks a lot for reading, I hope you have a fab week ahead and I shall catch you in the next blog π
James
