My Stuttering Episode on the “It Starts with Action” Podcast!

Being a part of a podcast has been something that I have always wanted to do in life, however, due to my Stutter, I always thought that this dream was out of my reach, but now I have proved myself wrong! This week I starred in an episode of the “It Starts with Action” podcast, where I talk about a large array of different things, and is going to be what today’s blog is about!

So without further ado,

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

On Monday 31st August 2020, I guest starred in an episode of the “It Starts with Action” podcast, titled “Stuttering: Passing through the vocal barrier”. In the podcast, we discuss a lot of different topics, ranging from Stuttering to being the best version of yourself and more, which we will discuss in more detail in this blog! It’s a great episode for an amazing podcast, which is run by a friend of mine called Presence.

Here’s the podcast:

Over the last few weeks I have found that I have been Stuttering a lot more than I usually do the reason why will be explain in next weeks blog, but I didn’t let this stop me from going on the podcast. I could have shied away from recording the episode, as I do Stutter a little bit more frequently than I usually do, but I handled it in a very different way. I have learned to embrace my Stutter, as it is not something that i should be ashamed of, it is a part of who I am as a person, it is a part of James Sweeney.

You see, despite Stuttering quite a bit, I am still very proud that I took the imitative to reach out and record the episode. I find now, looking back, that my Stutter helped bring in that extra layer of personal authenticity as to what I was saying, as a lot of the episode itself was tailored around Stuttering, and the impact that it can have on someone’s life.

We all have do have a voice in life, whether we have a Stutter or otherwise, and it is one of the messages that I hope people take with them after listening to the podcast. learning the value in your voice is one of the most important lessons that we can learn in life!

During the podcast, we discuss a vast range of topics including:

– Stuttering – the effects that a Stutter can have on your life, some of the difficulties I have faced due to my speech, a few Stuttering Solution’s that can help reduce the amount of times you Stutter & more. We also look at what I call the three types of Stuttering, what they are, how to recognise them and how to try and manage them!

– Being the best versions of ourselves – what does the best version of yourself look like? I shared mine in the episode, but do you know yours? I really liked being asked this question as it made me think of not only how I see myself and my future, but the ways in which I can develop and grow to really become the best version of myself. It is quite a good question to ask yourself from time to time, how can I be the best version of myself?

– Goals & Plans for the future – we talked about where we want to be, what we want to do & what we hope to achieve going forward in our lives.

– Age vs Experience – this part of the podcast was focused around the concept of, can you be too young to follow your dreams? To me, this is quite an interesting topic to bring up in a debate as there are a lot of different viewpoints on the subject matter, as well as being a lot of factors that you can bring in to consider. Whether or not you value age greater than experience, vice versa, or something completely different, it can really open the door to quite an intriguing conversation.

You can see from the list above just how many different things we discussed throughout the episode, and even though I may have stuttered from time to time, that does not take anything away from the points that I was making. I did really enjoy being a part of the episode and I cannot wait to do more episodes in the future. Who knows, I may even have my ow podcast in a few years!

That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! I am going to be working a lot over the next few weeks on how to manage my Stutter more effectively which should hopefully mean that by the next time I do a podcast episode, I will Stutter a lot less than I did in this one! That’s one of the things that I love about life, there’s always something that we can work on, improve and develop!

Thank you all for reading today’s blog! What do you think? Are you going to give the episode a listen? If you do, let me know how you find it! What sort of blogs and topics would you like to see me cover on the page over the next few weeks? Are there any new series that you would like to see me write? Let me know your answers to the questions above, as well as any other thoughts or queries that you may have on the comments below!

Thank you all for reading and i hope you have a great day!
