Let’s talk about photos…

Good morning 👋

What’s a photo you’ve got or had taken that always brings a memory to mind?

When I was thinking about what to write today’s blog on, a random idea came to mind – why not talk about photos, how I use them when writing posts and why I’ve started taking more and more of them in recent years. So, that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

I’ve written over 1,000 blogs over the last couple of years, both here on Sweeney’s Blogs and in my various comms positions. I’m not saying this in a boastful way, more in a way to say – I know what it’s like to write a huge volume of content, and how thinking of ideas from time to time can be tricky.

However, one easy trick that I use to think of inspirations whenever I’m stuck has got to be photos.

If I’m ever sitting here and struggling to think of what to write, one of the first things I do is open my gallery on my phone. From here, I spend a few minutes scrolling through, and I’ll see what comes to mind.

Sometimes, the ideas are effortless and come instantly; other times, it’s a little more nuanced. I’ve had all sorts of blog ideas come from scrolling, including, but not limited to:

🏝️ Holiday photos – This can spark a holiday wrap-up, a trip down memory lane, something about experiencing new cultures, meeting new people, food, history, travelling, you name it, really.

😁 Personal reflections – Things I’d say to a younger me, something I was reminded of recently, one area I’m proud to have grown in, and something I’ve always wanted to do is XYZ.

I feel like these types of posts help create a space to be more open, honest and personal with your content – which typically makes the posts more relatable, memorable and impactful.

🤝 Photos taken with a friend – I could write a blog about that friend and why they’re important to me, some of the stories we have together, a piece about friendship/relationships or a lesson I’ve learnt from them.

Kyle, Me, Rachel and Katie at a recent party we had in london 🙂

This is one area I’ve been working on a lot lately, being more intentional with getting photos. I’ve been lucky enough to have gotten to catch up with loads of friends over the last few years – whether here in the UK, or while I’ve been out in America.

I used to forget to take photos with people all the time, then as I was going home from an event, I’d suddenly remember and feel bad for missing the chance. Now, I usually ask where I can, as you never know what sort of memories each photo you take can hold.

If you need a reminder to take more photos in life, well, you’re welcome, I guess 😉

That’s all for today’s blog, I’ll, hopefully, catch you in the next one! What do you think? Would you like to see more blogs in this random, more conversational style?

I’d love to hear your thoughts 😊

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!

James
