A Sweeney in London – June 2026

Good morning πŸ‘‹

How’s everything going for you lately?

Last weekend, I was in London for a lovely couple of days of sun, catching up with friends, and enjoying the very best of the West End. Every one of my London trips has been different so far, so let’s see what craziness this one had in store.

Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!

Before I properly kick this blog off, I wanted to add a bit of context as to why I do posts like this on the page. I first started doing this style of post back in 2023, when a younger Sweeney decided to throw caution to the wind, book a hotel and travel over to London for the weekend.

A throwback to my 2023 days – where did it all go wrong? 🀣

Even though I studied at the University of Reading for four years, I only actually travelled over to London probably around 5/6 times in total, which, looking back, is a bit mad. Anyways, that’s enough of a tangent for now – I do blogs like this, as I feel like looking back on recent trips, days out and celebrations with friends makes you appreciate life in a whole new lens.

The people you meet, the things you see, the moments where you can be fully you, whether that’s at home or somewhere far away, I find it all so fascinating.

Being able to share these stories too is fab, as you never know what kind of impact they may create, or what conversations they can start. Back to the topic at hand, though, here’s some of what I got up to this time around ‡️

🀝 Friday afternoon – I got to spend some time coworking with my friend Ryan in Farringdon, visiting my go-to stall at the Leather Lane market for some jerk chicken. I say coworking, it was more me reading while distracting Ryan for a bit, but hey ho, a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do

πŸ• Friday evening – I had a lovely catch-up with two of my very good friends from uni, James and Ollie, over some pizza. You cannot beat checking in with friends and hearing how they’re doing, there’s nothing quite like it

🎭 Saturday – A couple of friends (Dan, Alicja, Rob and our friend Tom for a little bit) and I went along to West End Live at Trafalgar Square, which was unreal. If you haven’t heard of WEL, picture every show currently on at the West End performing some of their songs for free, all during a boiling hot summer’s day. It’s always a cracker.

⚑️ Saturday evening – of course, the only way to end such an awesome day was to watch Hercules live, which is a wild time.

πŸŒ’ Sunday – I caught some extra acts at WEL, before going to watch Dark of the Moon live (and getting a photo with the two leads) – a show I didn’t know too much about beforehand, but ended up really enjoying.

If you haven’t watched or heard of Dark of the Moon before, it’s a musical set in the Appalachian mountains, and is based on a love story between a human girl and a supernatural boy, bringing in elements of trust, betrayal, friendship, and a whole lot more in a half country, half rock style. I thought it was pretty awesome.

Here’s me with the leads of the show – Glenn and Lauren, who were absolutely lovely people

Weekends like this always make me feel really grateful. I’ve loved going to London so much over the last three years; long may these trips continue.

From random chats in Foyles bookshop to joking with people at a show, you never know what you’re going to get, and that’s what makes it so much fun.

Roll on West End Live 2027 πŸ’ƒ

That’s all from me for today. What do you think? What’s a trip you’ve been on that’ll always stay with you?

I’d love to what you think 😊

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!

James
