Family Trees are things that, to many, are a very important part of their lives. Learning about your family tree allows you to see where your ancestors came from and what sort of lives they lived. With the extra time that some people now have due to the Lockdown, why don’t we look into out Family Trees? That is what today’s Ideas for Lockdown blog is going to be looking into!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blog is the sixth blog in the “Ideas for Lockdown” series and is all abut Tracing your Family Tree. The Lockdown that we are all facing has consequently left many of us with a lot more time on our hands compared to what we would have had without it. It can be difficult to find things to do in this spare time and it can leave people feeling very bored and demotivated.

Instead of doing nothing with the extra time we have, why don’t we channel it into doing something useful, such as tracing our family tree? We can use the time we have now to see where we came from and learn more about your family history. Who are where we come from play a massive part in who we are as a person and can play a very pivotal role in our lives.

One of the best things about tracing your Family Tree is that it is just getting easier and easier to do. The rise of technology has brought about many positives for society and life in general and there’s no exception when it comes to tracking your family tree. There are a lot of genealogy sites nowadays that are designed with the purpose of helping you find out more about yourself and your family.
Sites like Ancestory.Com are a great place to start you off with your search and can really open the doors to a rich family history which you may not have been aware of beforehand. If you are nervous about starting and may be worrying about getting lost or stuck, Ancestory.Com even have their own YouTube channel where they give tutorials on how to use their site.

A question that I ask everyone is: What have you got to lose? We have the chance to find out more about ourselves and our families, where can you go wrong?! You may even find out that your family are originally from a different country as to what you’d first expected! One of your ancestors could have been really successful in life and you would never find out unless you actually tried to look!
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! What do you all think? How is everybody doing in Lockdown? Are we enjoying the Ideas for Lockdown series? Are there any more topics that you would like to see me cover? Let me know either in the comments below or through our Facebook page and I will do my best to make your ideas into blogs in the future!
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great day!

Ideas for Lockdown – Blog 5: Visit an Art Gallery?
Visiting an Art Gallery or Exhibit may sound like an impossible thing to do whilst being Lockdown but what if I told you that there was a way to do it from the comfort of your own home? With artwork ranging from Monet, to Van Gogh and Warhol, where can you go wrong? That is what today’s blog is about in the Ideas for Lockdown series!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blogs is the fifth blog in the “Ideas for Lockdown” series and is all about visiting an Art Gallery. Similar to what I said in the introduction to this blog, visiting an Art Gallery may seem like a crazy idea to think about when we are all stuck in lockdown, but what if I told you that there was a way to do it from your own home? This is what we will be looking at in today’s blog!
Technology has revolutionized the whole world and has helped us to do things that we never thought possible beforehand. An interesting thing that a lot of Art Galleries have done around the world before this crisis is digitize their whole galleries! This means that all of the art work they have in their galleries is available to view online, anywhere you have access to the internet!
I understand that viewing artwork from a computer or a tablet is not the same as seeing the thing first hand but it does give us something to do and appreciate during this terribly bleak time. If you are a fan of artwork then this could be exactly what you need to see to put a smile back on your face!
If you are wondering which galleries are now available, there are tonnes to choose from! Here are four that I have found:
MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art based in New York

The MoMA Gallery is devoted to artwork from the Modern Era and includes pieces of work such as The Starry Night painting by Vincent Van Gogh, which can be seen above. The museum hosts artwork created by some of the greatest artists of all time including Monet, Picasso and Warhol, to name but a few.
The MoMA: https://artsandculture.google.com/partner/moma-the-museum-of-modern-art?hl=en
Uffizi Gallery based in Florence, Italy

The Uffizi Gallery, designed in 1560 for Giorgio Vasari was originally designed to house the Granducal Magistratures of Tuscany. The Gallery houses tonnes of really great pieces of artwork including the Sacrifice of Isaac, which can be seen in the photo above. The Uffizi Gallery holds host to artwork mainly from the Renaissance era, so if that is style you enjoy looking at, be sure to check it out!
The Uffizi Gallery: https://artsandculture.google.com/partner/uffizi-gallery?hl=en
Musée d’Orsay based in Paris, France

The Musée d’Orsay museum houses artwork created by Van Gogh and Cezanne and has some really great pieces such as The Church in Auvers-sur-Oise, View from the Chevet, which was created by Van Gogh in 1890 and can be seen above. The Museum has some really great collections of artwork which I highly recommend checking out!
Musée d’Orsay: https://artsandculture.google.com/partner/musee-dorsay-paris?hl=en
The Tate Britain based in London

The Tate Gallery is one of the largest Museum’s in the United Kingdom and holds some incredible pieces of art such as The Lament for Icarus, which can be seen above. The museum hosts a large collection of the artwork of the United Kingdom since the Tudor times, including the works of J.M.W Turner, who left his collection to the museum.
The Tate: https://artsandculture.google.com/partner/tate-britain?hl=en
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! I hope you all enjoy the artwork and the galleries if you decide to check them out. I provided a link to some of their galleries after each one so if you are interested be sure to check them out and let us know what you think!
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great day!

What do we mean by Success? – Blog 6: Your Self-Image?

This is what we are going to be looking at it in today’s “What do we mean by Success?” blog!

Ideas for Lockdown – Blog 4: Have a Cinema Day?
Everyone always loves watching films but it is something that we all struggle to find time for in our day to day lives. With the lockdown affecting the whole nation, why not use the extra time to watch those films you have been wanting to see for a while? Could even have a whole day dedicated to it if you want! The is what we will be talking about in today’s Ideas for Lockdown blog!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today is the fourth blog in the Ideas for Lockdown series and is all about watching films and having a Cinema day/night! Watching a film/movie is a thing that everybody loves to do from time to time. There are millions and millions of different films out there to choose from so why not make the most of it? With the extra time that we have now due to the lockdown, why not have a film day or a movie night? Or even both?

If you’re unsure about what film to watch, the choice is completely up to you! You can watch any film you want too. Whether you are a fan of horror films or comedies, there’s always tonnes of options available out there for you!
If you do not have many DVDs or downloaded films, why not use one of the streaming services? Netflix and Amazon Prime both have a large library full of different films available to watch after a few clicks! With the release of Disney Plus too all Marvel and Disney films are available on one platform and you even get a week to watch them all for free!

Whether you are watching The Lion King or The Wizard of Oz, make the most of the time! Grab some popcorn and a drink and relax and unwind. Could even make it a part of your daily routine. Doing all your usual tasks during the day and then gather round to watch a film and relax in the evening? Whatever you decide to do I hope you enjoy the films/movies!
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! I am going to be going back to posting 3 blogs a week this week instead of the blog a day that I have been doing recently as well, more details about this can be found on yesterday’s blog. The Ideas for Lockdown blog that was originally planned for Wednesday has been moved to new Wednesday now as well. Saturday’s blog will now be about lockdown lessons that we all can learn!
What do you think of today’s blog? Do you enjoy watching movies? Are you going to start having a film night during Lockdown? What are you doing to keep busy during Lockdown? Let me know your answers to the questions above and any other questions or comments you have either in the comments or via our Facebook page!

Content Schedule Update – April 2020
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blog is a content schedule blog update for the page! For the past 23 days I have been doing a blog a day but that is now going to be changing! I am going to be reverting back to 2/3 blogs a week for the next few weeks!
I have really enjoyed doing a blog a day and felt like I have covered a lot of different content topics but feel like now is a good time to revert back to the older posting schedule. I have a lot of University work on at the moment and as Exams are just around the corner I want to put myself in the best possible position for them going forward.
Posting every day is something that I wish I could do more of but with the current set up it is just not practical or realistic. I am using the new lockdown time to relax and refocus myself but at the minute it feels like I post at times just for the sake of posting, and that is not what I want to be doing. i want to ensure that all the content that I publish on the page is done to a very high standard and this revised schedule will allow me to do that.
In terms of what content will be released on the page next week, at this current point in time I am thinking of sticking to the active series that I have on the page currently. This means that I am hoping to keep posting new blogs in the “What do we mean by Success?” series as well as in the “Ideas for Lockdown” series. Currently I am not sure how long both series will be, I will have to wait and see what ideas I come up with for them.
If I do find a very good blog that I want to share or I get a guest blog through for the page the schedule can be altered accordingly. If a big event happens that needs a blog too I will change the schedule around to fit that. I will keep everyone updated on what is happening with the page as soon as I know myself and I hope you are all alright with me going back to the old posting schedule. I need to try and focus some more time on myself and my University work and I feel like this solution will allow me to do both whilst also posting good quality content on the page!
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! Thank you all for reading! What do you think? Are you happy to see the old schedule come back? Are there any topics that you want me to write about? Is there a series idea that you have that you want to talk through with me? Let me know your answers to the questions above and any other questions or comments that you may have either through the comments on this blog or through our Facebook page!
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great day!

What do we mean by Success? – Blog 5: Your Public Image?
How we see ourselves and see each other is one of the underlying principles of Society. Everybody in life has their own role to play which to many makes their public image very important. The question that I am now asking you all to think of is your public image a reflection of how successful you are or not? This is what we will be taking a look at in today’s What do we mean by Success blog!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blog is the fifth blog in the “What do we mean by Success?” series that we run on the page and is all about your public image! A public image is something that we all have and is something that plays a big part in how we live our day to day life! While everyone has a different part to play in life, can we use our public image as a determiner of whether or not we are successful in life?

Firstly, to answer this question, we need to take a look at what I mean by our “public image”. Public Image to me is both a combination of how we are seen by others and what our role in society is. Are you seen as a caring person who anyone can talk to or are you more of a quiet person that just does a job quietly?
Nearly everyone we meet in life will be different and will react in their own way to different circumstances. Some people will instinctively panic if a problem arises and will go frantic whereas others will be able to keep their cool and thin rationally about how to solve the problem that they are in. Is it fair to say that the person that keeps calm is more successful than the person who stresses out and panics?
The answer to that question is a matter of opinion, it reflects how you see people and indeed society. I don’t think we can judge whether someone is successful or not simply by how they react in a crisis, but to many it is a determining factor. Again I am not saying you are right or wrong in whatever your view is about the question, I just think it is quite an interesting question to ask ourselves.
The thing that this comes down to in my opinion is how important is your public image to you? If you see your public image as being very important then it is more likely that it will be a determining factor of whether you consider yourself and others successful or not. There is again no right answer as for how important your public image is to you, it is all down to what you think of it.

People come in all different shapes and sizes. Some people are tall, others are short, some are great at Maths, others English. We are all different and it is what makes the world interesting. We find as we go through life that there are people who are natural leaders and then there are people that work better being told what to do by someone else. Is it a fair thing to measure success simply by if you are a leader or not? Alternatively is it a fair view to say that someone is not successful in life because they are not a leader?
Personally I think that whether you are a leader or not does not matter in regards to being successful or not but in saying that , there will be others that think completely differently. I am really interested in seeing what you all think to some of the questions I have been asking all throughout this series. I feel like they are all very thought provoking questions that really make you think of how to answer them and how you see yourselves in general.
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! The blog is a little bit shorter than I originally planned but I think that there are some very good questions asked here that can really make you think. What do you think success means? Do you think your pubic image is a factor in whether or not you are successful in life? What do you think your public image is? Let me know what you think either in the comments below or though our Facebook page!
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great day!

Covid-19 came in like a lion no doubt about it. Ideas for Lockdown – Blog 3: Learning a new Language
Learning a new Language is something that we all try and do at some point in our lives and is something we should all try and do more of in our day to day life. Learning a new language brings with it lots of different positives in our life which we will be looking at in today’s blog in the Ideas for Lockdown series!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blog is the third blog in the Ideas for Lockdown series and is all about Learning a new Language! Learning new languages is something that I love to try and do and is something that we could all do more of in our lives! As a lot of people have more time on their hands due to the Lockdown that we are facing, why don’t we use the time to try and start to learn a new language?

There are around 6,500 spoken languages around the world. There are so many languages to choose from so the question that I have is what’s stopping you? Is there a language that you have always wanted to learn but have never had the time too? Then now is your chance! Make the most of the extra time that we have and try and learn that language, you never know it could change your life!
One of my favourite things about learning languages is that you can spend as little or as much time doing it as you choose. You can spend hours a day looking at different words, verbs and tenses or you could just spend the odd five minutes here and there learning some new phrases, it is completely up to you!

Learning a new language gives you the chance to communicate with people around the world. If you know French, for instance, then you can communicate with people from France, Belgium, Cameroon and even Canada! It opens the door to a potential global network of people that you can speak and interact with!
Learning more languages can also help you out greatly in advancing your career. Companies are now actively seeking out multilingual people and are adding things like, must speak to or more languages, to job descriptions. Learning a new language can not only open your door to a much larger network of people but can also provide a lot of different jobs all around the world!

In regards to what language you should learn, it is completely up to you! Quite a lot of people that I know look at the most employable languages or the most spoken languages around the world and then try and learn them but the choice is all yours!I find that when I have been to a country and seen people speak their native language, it makes me want to learn it!
Growing up I had the chance to speak English, Welsh, French and German. While I ultimately did not choose German as a GCSE option I still had the chance to learn the basics and really enjoyed it! By the end of my time in school, I could speak a lot of Welsh and carried on with learning French. By the end of College I had a great understanding of the French language and it led to me making some great friends in France!

As I mentioned previously the speed that you learn a language is completely up to you. You could try and learn it all as fast as you can or you could take it nice and slow. Even spending the odd five minutes here and there learning a few rods does make a little bit of a different when learning a new language.
There is tonnes of help out there if you are stuck learning a language too. Websites like Duolingo, https://www.duolingo.com/, and Language Helpers, https://www.languagehelpers.com/, are made to help you learn new languages and are there to support you along the way! If you make the most of them then they will be sure to help you out!

Learning a new language can also help us to start to understand the culture behind different countries and the traditions and beliefs that different countries have. It can be a great way to broaden your horizons of the world and to really see how different people live and what they do in their day to day lives!
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! What do you all think? Is there a language that you have always wanted to learn? Are you going to try and learn it now? What are you doing in Lockdown? Is there any specific content that you would like to see me do for the page? Let me know in the comments below or through out Facebook page and I will see if I can make it happen!
Thanks for reading and i hope you have a great day!

Ideas for Lockdown – Blog 2: Catching up with Friends
Catching up with friends is something that we all too often forget to do. As we go through life juggling different workloads we sometimes do forget to check in on our friends and see if they are doing alright. Today’s blog in the Ideas for Lockdown series is going to be about Catching up with Friends and how it can be a great thing for us to do in this lockdown!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today’s blog is the second blog in the Ideas for Lockdown series and is all about Catching up with Friends. As the lockdown that we are currently facing continues, people are looking for different things to do with their time. The lockdown and of course Corona Virus have caused a complete change in lifestyle for nearly everyone and people are struggling to cope at times, even if they can’t see it themselves.

As quite a lot of people have a lot more time on their hands now compared to what they used to have , I would recommend using some of that time to catch up with some of your friends. Catching up with your friends is something that I always recommend people to do at any time of the year but during this lockdown it is even more important.
The Corona Virus pandemic has caused a lot of people to become very stressed and worried about what the future holds in store. It is a common trait that a lot of people do not want to talk about the struggles they are facing in life and start to bottle things up. Bottling things up is not a smart move to make but it is something that people far too often resort too.

A lot of people feel like they can keep bottling things up forever when in reality it is just not the case. Ultimately they break and then are forced to face everything that they have bottled up by themselves. Checking up on your friends and seeing if they are alright can help lighten the load that they carry and can really help them out in life.
How you communicate with your friends is completely up to you. You can phone them, text them, facetime them, anything. The actual way that you contact them does not really matter it is the action of actually doing it. Doesn’t matter if you haven’t seen that person in a few months or even years, it is never too late to catch up with someone!

One thing that people often tell me when we talking about catching up with people is they say that they worry that they will not know what to say when they actually try and get in touch. A lot of people worry that they will not be able to hold the conversation but unless you try it, you’ll never see. I can’t say that you will always get someone who wants to have a conversation but surely there is no harm in trying?
Personally, I am a person who loves to chat and I talk to different people every day. I love keeping in touch with people, seeing how they are doing, what they are up to and their plans for the future. Granted there have been times where I have messaged an old friend and the response I get is just a simple yeah or fine but the majority of people you speak to will be more than happy to have a chat if they have time!

In regards of what to talk about, I cannot really help you that much there. The one thing that I will say is see where the conversation takes you. Obviously you start with asking each other how you are and stuff but then the conversation will go in the way that one of you decide it to go in. You can talk about jobs, family, life, absolutely anything!
You will find that when you start talking to people you will have so much to actually talk about when you initially thought that you would have nothing. I say to let the conversation flow, ask questions, listen to each other and just be genuine and you can’t really go wrong.
Catching up with people can be a great thing to do in life. You can talk about trips you went on together, mutual friends that you used to know, anything. It can help you relive some really great memories which you may have forgotten about!

If you want a challenge to start you off, I’ll give everyone one.Try and speak to at least two old friends that you haven’t spoken to for a while. See how they are doing and what they are up to in life! You might rekindle a great friendship that could last your whole life, who knows?! What I will say is that you do not know unless you actually try. People always say oh I wish I did that, when now we have more time on our hands, why not try and actually do it?!
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! What do you all think? Are you going to catch up with some old friends? What are you doing with your extra time now? How are you coping whilst being stuck in lockdown? What other blogs will you like to see on the page? Let me know your answers to these questions and any other questions you may have in the comments below or on our Facebook page!

Sweeney’s Blogs has over 8,000 views!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
As of Saturday last week, Sweeney’s Blogs has now passed over 8,000 total views! It is an absolutely amazing milestone for the page and is a great reflection of all the work that we have been doing recently! I started the page back on the 3rd February 2019 and we have already got so many more views than I originally thought possible!
I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who has helped support the page, be that through reading the blogs, writing blogs, commenting on your thoughts on the page and so much more. All the help that I receive on the page is greatly appreciated and ultimately helps make the page better for everyone!
The way that I write blogs has dramatically changed since I started the page and that is all down to experience and learning where I go wrong in the past. Some of my earlier blogs have had a bit of an update recently as I thought I could improve them a little bit and make them more consistent with the rest of the conent!
As I was updating all of my blog series, by giving them all their own pages, I edited a few of the blogs to fix any mistakes that were there or if there was a part that I thought I could write better, I reworded it to make the overall flow nicer!
In terms of what you can expect to see on the page in the next few weeks, I have a lot of content planned. The What do we mean by Success series is still running on the page and will be going for another few weeks. I also started the Ideas for Lockdown series on Saturday and the next blog for that will be coming tomorrow.
I will be starting a few series in the next few weeks/months but at the minute I am not sure which order I am going to release them in. I am looking to start a series about the real life of students where I give a real view of the University experience from someone who has been in the position of a student living away from home. I do have a lot more series ideas that I am thinking of and when I have a definite plan for when they are going to be posted, I will let you all know!
That’s all I want to talk about in today’s blog! Thank you all for reading and I hope you have enjoyed! Thank you all for over 8,000 views too, I really appreciate it! I have done a blog a day for the past 16 days now so we’ll see how long I can keep it going for!
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great day,

What do we mean by Success? – Blog 4: Your Social Life?
Having a good social life can help you out in so many different ways through life but a question that stems from this is can we measure how successful we are based off of how good our Social Group and as a result our Social Life is? That is what today’s blog in the What do we mean by Success series is going to look at!
Hello and Welcome to Sweeney’s Blogs!
Today is the fourth blog in the “What do we mean by Success?” series and is all about Social Lives. As stated in the introduction to the blog, having a good social life brings with it plenty of rewards in life but can we measure our success based off of the social life we live? Is our social life the core factor of what makes us successful or not? That is what we will be looking at in today’s blog.

As we go through life, the way we see ourselves, the world and indeed each other changes and evolves. Sometimes there are new people that enter our lives and sometimes we have people leave our lives. The people we meet and the social lie we develop differs from person to person. Some people prefer to only have a small number of friends but trust those friends with a lot whereas others may prefer to have a lot more friends and not tell them as much.
The Social Life and Group that we become a part of is ultimately our decision. We decide who we talk to and meet and it is up to us to create our own Social Life. The role that we play in that group will also differ but that can be for a number of reasons. You could be a very extroverted person who likes to be the leader of the group, you could be the quieter one than people come to talk too, you could be the problem solver that people come to when they have issues that need solving and much, much more.

The roles we play in the groups we are a part of ultimately does not matter, they are our choice and if we want to change that choice we are completely in our rights too. There is always a debate going around regarding Social Lives and it involves quality and quantity. I have heard a number of people ask if it is better to have a Social Life where you are going out every day of the week and then others say that they go out once a week or once a month.
The question that people often pose is does the number of times I go out a week effect my social group? Is my social group better than someone else’s because we go out more? Does that mean our group is more successful? Less successful? Neither?

The answer to those questions, similar to most of the questions I ask in this series are completely down to your own opinion. There is no right or wrong answer and I am not here to tell you that what you believe is not right. Sometimes going out more is good then other times it is bad. It all depends on who you are as a person, what your group is like, what you are doing and a lot more factors,
Measuring if we our successful or not based off of solely our Social Lives is a very difficult thing to do. You can spend a lot of time thinking about it but may ultimately end up with nothing. The Social Lives and groups that we are a part of do change throughout life. Even if you stay in the same group all your life, the way you meet up and communicate will change somewhere down the line.
People these days live very busy lives. People have differing workloads that change over time and will also have an impact on the group that you are a part of. Sometimes groups will have to meet less as people are busy whereas there may be other times where you can meet up more due to not having much work on. It fluctuates a lot which adds to the complexity in measuring it in relation to being successful or not.
Another factor which adds yet another layer of complexity into the debate is what if you have not even got a social group? What if you speak to a number of different people but not as a group? Does that still create like a group with you being the center or does it mean that you are not a part of a group? Does this impact on if you are successful or not?

If people trust you and always speak to you but you are not a part of a group does this mean that you are unsuccessful? There really is no end to this debate as it is all down to a matter of opinion.I have my own view on it and you will have yours too. As always these blogs are not created to force you into a certain way of thinking, I am simply asking questions and looking into what your opinions may be.
Success is a word that we use nearly everyday but when we actually look at it, what does it mean? I have found that success means different things to different people. Some people think that a good social life means you are successful in life whereas others do not even count it as a factor. It is an interesting debate to have with people and can lead you to think about questions you would not usually think of.
That is all I want to talk about in today’s blog. What do you all think? Do you think your social life impacts on whether you are successful or not in life? What does success mean to you? Do you think there is a right answer to the questions I have asked in this blog? Let me know what you think of these questions either in the comments below or through our Facebook page.
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great day,
