Escaping the Rat Race: Lessons from Buddhism — Pointless Overthinking

As humans we spend most of our lives in a state of perpetual craving and desire. We land a big promotion at work, but soon fantasize about continuing to move up the corporate ladder. We become consumed by discontent and dissatisfaction as we constantly compare our social standing to that of our peers.  Wealth, status…

Who Am I? – Isha Patel

“Who Am I?”

It’s a question that I often find my inner voice asking, but I never really know what the right answer to it should be. This is something that I have been thinking over quite a bit recently, so I thought I jot down my thoughts in a blog & share them with everyone!

So, let’s get into it!

The Science of Happiness

GS's avatarBe Inspired..!!

Scientist today, teaches us that cells in your body have everything to do with happiness, and how to maintain that state of being. With every cell of your body, you have the inherent ability to manipulate and control the way you feel. However, not many people seem to know this, or even know how this works. Before we begin, you must understand what our bodies are made of. Our bodies are moulded out of 70 trillion cells that are found in the blood, the brain, skin, bone, eyes, hair, and in the reproductive system. Why is this important? Because every cell, no matter where they are located, are working together to make you feel a certain way.

Each cell reacts to electromagnetic waves (signals) and proteins (called neuropeptides) that come from your heart. The heart sends signals and shoots out these proteins in fractions of a second. Every cell is…

Ways to Reset Your Happiness Set Point

Cathy Noice's avatarWorkplace Navigator

I wrote this over 7 years ago and as I reread it now, I realize that I really have reset my happiness set point. Enjoy!

Iwrote a post a few weeks ago about perfectionism. In the post, I brought up Hedonic Adaptation which involves a happiness “set point”, whereby humans generally maintain a constant level of happiness throughout their lives, despite events that occur in their environment. So whether it’s buying a new Mercedes or crashing your new Mercedes, your level of happiness resets to the same pre-event level. A reader asked that I expound on how I have tried to reset my happiness set point.

So I’ve tried to reset my “set point” and it turns out there is some science behind it. I think I first became aware of this by reading “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin. In the book, she chronicles…

Sweeney’s Blogs – What a Community!!

Good morning everybody!

I hope you are all having a lovely start to the day!

When I first started Sweeney’s Blogs, back in February 2019, I didn’t just want to create a singular blog page – I wanted to build a community, a safe space where people can come to talk about all of the topics that genuinely matter to them. Over the last 2 & a half years, I have been so lucky to see that vision grow more & more into a reality, and it is such a rewarding process!!

Let’s take a bit of a closer look at this in today’s blog!
